When faced with the following situations, what do you often find yourself doing?
1. A situation that makes you feel overwhelmed
2. A situation that makes you afraid and anxious
3. Those times when it seems impossible to arrive at a decision
4. Those times when you find yourself stuck or at cross roads in your life and don’t know how to proceed
Take a moment to honestly and sincerely think about your actions and reactions in each of these situations before you go on reading ahead.
Most people find themselves reacting in one of the following ways
1. Want to be left alone
2. Wish to run and flee the scene completely
3. Constantly questioning “Why me”
4. Engulfed in a wave of negative thoughts
5. Binge eating or drinking as a result of the stress
6. Sometimes giving up, leaving it all in the hands of destiny!
Till about 5 years ago, I fell prey to such situations often losing a grip on myself. At one point when I realized how damaging my reactions were to myself and my surroundings, I had to take stock and bring my life back into my hands. It was then that I discovered a magic pill to overcome these feelings, turn the negativity into positivity, to make everything possible and make it happen!
Self – Coaching is the magic pill that not only helped me deal with, get over and move on from my difficult times but also helped me realize the dreams and achieve the successes that I always desired. Self – Coaching is a form of self-introspection that allows us to uncover our true desires, our strengths and our limitations. Self – Coaching helps us get clarity and confidence. Self – Coaching can take us into newer horizons and push us to achieve our true potential.
When faced with a difficult situation – stop, take a deep breath, relax and start self-coaching yourself. The easiest way to begin self-coaching is ask yourself the question “What do I want”, follow it up with “How do I get it”, then go to “What is stopping me from getting it” then ask “How can I overcome this”, follow it up with “What strengths do I have to make it happen” leading to a “How can I best utilize these”.
In its simplest form, Self-Coaching is a series of linked questions that keep alternating between ‘What’ and ‘How’. The beginning point i.e. how you frame the first question is critical to determine the success of your self-coaching exercise. Additionally, how you link the questions to your desired outcome and alternating between the what’s and how’s also form an important aspect of this self-coaching exercise.
To never fall back in your life, I strongly recommend adapting a self-coaching lifestyle. You can learn more about this through my training program “Make it Happen!”.
